It is amazing! You know with all my birds I have yet to shoot a flamingo. Never see them in the wild, who knew they were not a Florida bird! I mean the Florida lottery logos feature this non-florida bird.
During my research, I read that over the years, we had effectively eradicated the American flamingo from Florida by the end of the 1800s. Recently, a few birds have been spotted in the Everglades near a water treatment plant.
Definitely sounds like I should research too as I had understood they never bred in Florida but rather further South of us, but that some wild birds were seen in the very southern everglades…maybe why Flamingo by White Water Bay is called Flamingo. The other bird you may be interested in which occurs only in the Keys and Southern Everglades as far as USA is concerned, is the Great White Heron….and the Wurdeman’s which is considered a mix of the Great Blue and the Great White. Although there is some new thinking on that issue. The bird that got me into birding was the Great White Heron. I’d love to see you draw one.

Love herons. Especially the little green ones, but the Great Blue and Great White are sorta like the gods of herons. 😉 I may have to start collecting info and pics for the next project.
