so, i experimented w/the heron….washed her with a cobalt oxide. after i brushed it on, i rinsed most of it off so that it looked like it was just in the crevices, but this stuff is so strong that the entire piece fired an intense blue. i was shocked but not totally displeased. when dealing with ceramics, so much is left to the fire gods.
took her home and then this morning i buffed her with wax and a pearlized white pigment to give some depth and light reflection. i think she turned out pretty ok…not what i was going for, but i kinda like the look.
