Ann Richards died today. I enjoyed her strong, feisty personality. We need more loud women like her.

and i certainly hope that the new season of survivor will mean the death of this ridiculous trend in “entertainment.” i must admit here that i have never watched a reality show. well, except the food network and animal planet, but other than that, i am probably the only person in america who owns a working tv and has not watched survivor or any of the other so-called reality shows.
ok…so the only reason i even know that there’s going to be a new survivor season is because the last story on the news tonight was about the controversy surrounding the “theme” of the new season — race. it seems that the show is pitting race against race against race. i’m not sure how they will do this, since i’ve never watched the show and don’t know what it is they do, except that they have teams and they are all very buff. so i assume that there will be a black team, hispanic team and a “white” team (maybe other groups?) and they will be competing against each other for dominance or a prize. am i close? anyway, one of the critics of this new concept of racial segregation and competition said that they should all burn in hell.
i am aghast. not about the burning in hell curse, but that anyone, even a network tv moron, would come up with a story-line (does reality tv have story-lines?) this abhorrent and that the network bigwigs (better paid morons) would ok it for broadcast.
what the hell are they thinking? is the american tv viewing public this starved for excitement that it’s willing to watch a “real-life” race war? there is something so fundamentally wrong with this that i can only sit here in disbelief, remote at the ready to click through to emeril or america’s funniest animals.
i cry for the rest.

Without going into detail, let’s just say that I need to get my shit together.
Now, there are reasons (some good, some self-indulgent) for my apparent disorganization and, well, I may as well just say it — flakiness!! There, it’s out. I’ve been totally out of it. I have no clue what I’m doing, what I’m NOT doing and why I’m spending more time scratching my head than dealing with the day to day shit of life.
*sigh*
I don’t know what time it is, what day it is, or what I’m supposed to be doing next. Last night, I missed an event I had been looking forward to because I wrote it down the wrong day on my calendar. After I realized what I’d done, Brni and I went through a pile of mail that we’d been busy shifting around instead of opening. Once the mail was sorted, we found out that we have three weddings to go to in the next few weeks and one of them is on the same day that Brni is going to a concert and a friend of mine is supposed to be arriving by train.
Why are all these people getting married now? What happened to June? Now, I do understand that this is not the point, and yes, I am in danger of digressing.
sorry
Clearly, things have gotten away from me so I’m making myself a schedule. I have so many things planned, started, in the works and almost done that I may end up flow-charting my life.
And to think, I used to pride myself for my efficiency and attention to detail.

hmmm…a commentator that isn’t bought off by the present powers? who da thunk it?

It’s been many years since I’ve gone to the Renaissance Faire and now I wonder why I don’t go more often because I had such a lovely time. It was a joy to be outside, enjoying the sun, watching the actors and visiting the many interesting shops. The highlights for me were the mud people’s bawdy interpretation of Romeo and Juliet, the elephant ride with Kate, and the absolutely awesome fairy and her amazing mud sculptures.
I also left with a new-found need to make leather masks. In fact, I ordered some leather online today (enough for both of us, Krys!).
Here are a few pictures of our day.
