when brni gave me the wacom tablet it came with an older version of corel painter essentials (version 2). granted, painter essentials, at least this early version is very limited, but i really like the “natural” brushes. i’ve been playing with it a little bit, just to see how i might do art in a totally digital format and like it so much that i’ve ordered corel painter X. i’ve also been wanting to investigate vultures as a subject, so here’s my first couple attempts at it…
don’t laugh too hard, k?

I just found this following random links off the Faerie Con page. Aside from the oddness of going from the indulgent fantasy world of faeries to the serious work of women, I am surprised I haven’t heard about these amazing women and their work before now.
From the website…
On October 11, 2004, 13 Indigenous Grandmothers from all over the world–the Arctic Circle, North, South and Central America, Africa, and Asia, arrived at Tibet House’s Menla Mountain Retreat amidst 340 acres of forests, fields and streams in upstate New York. Within a few days of convening, the grandmothers agreed to form a global alliance; to work together to serve both their common goals and their specific local concerns.
The first council gathering was a time of hope and inspiration. The grandmothers are both women of prayer and women of action. Their traditional ways link them with the forces of the earth. Their solidarity with one another creates a web to rebalance the injustices wrought from an imbalanced world; a world disconnected from the fundamental laws of nature and the original teachings based on a respect for all of life.
Take a look at the whole story: http://www.grandmotherscouncil.com/

found this amusing little thing in my spam filter this morning.
“Grinning Ear to Ear , A Large Male Organ .”
the thought of penis ears will haunt the rest of my day, and now, it will haunt yours as well.
i’m sorta sorry for that.

This past week I’ve been suffering from a nasty head cold, so when Saturday rolled around I backed out of the planned trip to the Renaissance Faire. Then as everyone was preparing to head out, I impetuously changed my mind and backed right back in.
It was the wrong thing to do. I should have been a grown-up about the whole thing and stayed home. Let’s just say that the resulting fever and misery was my own damned fault and leave it at that.
but…
I did get some nice photos of the raptors at the falconry show.

so, i was reading my friends and in one of the comments to kijjohnson‘s post was a link to this tasty gem:
http://www.thesneeze.com/mt-archives/cat_steve_dont_eat_it.phpok, be warned! this is gross. funny, but gross. it has also made me realize that canned goods (or any packaged “food”) is evil and i will never never ever eat any packaged food again, especially if it’s from china, japan, korea, mexico, the midwest, the southern states, and of course texas. in fact, i just may never eat again.
i need to go scrub my eyes out and disinfect my mouth.
