is it just me or is there a magnifying glass aimed at our heads? it’s getting uncomfortably hot down here and everything seems bigger and meaner. i have a nagging suspicion that someone is pumping toxic gasses into all the nooks and crannies. and do you think someone has gone ’round the place with a large whet stone sharpening all the edges?

a long time ago, i bought this book which i never read called voluntary simplicity. i just now moved it from the will read before i die pile to the top of the read it now pile. i’m hoping it will help. i’ll let you know if find out how to smooth some edges, filter the air and maybe find a nice, soft, shady spot.

so, i went to a shamanic drumming circle tonight. i met up with a womanish being who gave me recipes to address my chronically recurring ear infections. i asked her who she was and she said, “i’m terrible, i’m wonderful, i’m Poke.”

this is not a surprise. poke has surrounded my house on 3 sides. i’d call that a blatant attempt to get my attention.

so tonight i met the spirit of Poke, and she is terrible and wonderful and i’ll do as she tells me. maybe i’ll even get the hearing back in my left ear.

  • plumbing for the soul

i think i’m clogged. i have been going in this direction and that direction, trying this and researching that and honestly, i think i’ve managed to clog up the works. i need a plumber.

the process needs to begin today. i need to de-clog…move the crap out. it begins with the tangibles. when the tangibles are sorted, stacked and disposed of properly, i will have the space to start on the real work of clearing the shit out of my head.

    i will be ruthless.
    brni will be scared.
(don’t worry…i won’t touch anyones stuff but my own)

i just need some emptiness right now.

  • bang a drum

    October 2, 2005

I made me a drum. I made a drum because a couple years ago I got interested in herbalism. I started reading up on herbalism which led along some windy paths that kept veering off this way and that, leading to some very irrational places. I found out I like these irrational places as they are far more intriguing than the plain old rational, by the numbers, scientific, if-you-dont-seeum-dey-aint-real places. I’m having fun poking around in places I haven’t visited since I was a child when I knew how to think magically.
    so…
One of the places that sort of go hand-in-hand with herbalism (not herbology) is shamanism. Many shamans use drums to get where they’re going. And one of these shamans runs a sweat lodge nearby and twice a year he has a drum making workshop that I somehow came across in my reading and just decided that I wanted to make a drum. Actually, I found I HAD to make a drum. Turns out that making a drum must have been on my “stuff to do before I die list” and I just didn’t know it.

So, I made a fabulous, wonderful, pretty damn good drum! Jim took a picture of all of us at the end of a very satisfying day.

    Thank you, Jim!
